What is (Natural) Martial Art?
True (natural) Martial Arts movements may be different than most people think or even know about. For hundreds of years martial arts were used not only as a means of self defense but also to rejuvenate the body with forms and movements. This is why we are honored to teach many of these forms at the Body Mind Systems® Training Centers.
Movements and forms taught in all the schools have been exclusively passed down from
generation to generation here in the United States for over 25 years. The main focus at each school has always been on the individual student and their development. We believe that “self defense against a person or two is relatively easy, defending against nature (age) is not”. This is why, our main focus has always been on developing the human body not just defending it. We teach eight different martial arts, three internal, three external, 18 Weapons, and Samurai sword. There are inherent principles within each of these Martial Arts that teach us as human beings.
In martial arts, unlike sports, you’re never too old to learn and develop. Aging may bring with it more physical restrictions, but fewer mental and internal ones - when you’re young it is sometimes harder to understand the importance of the physical (external) because it is naturally there, however, there may be more mental (internal) restrictions due to a lack of life wisdom (maturity). If you took martial arts when you were young it most likely had a profound affect on your life at some level. Challenge yourself again, or, if you’ve ever thought of trying martial arts, come in for an introductory lesson or speak with an instructor. The decision to become mentally and physically stronger is never a bad decision.
External Health
The Traditional Martial Arts forms and movements taught first within Body Mind Systems, focus on the muscles, tendons and ligaments of the body through static and dynamic use of the 8 major joints. Through practice, students learn movements that develop core strength and flexibility, as well as timing, balance, coordination and stamina.
Students first go through physical training to develop their willpower and strengthen their bodies. Once the students feel this, they are ready for the next level of training. In order to develop in martial arts to a point where your mind and body are more comfortable, healthy, and strong, you do not need a lifetime of practice. Within months you can attain self-accomplishments that you will appreciate and use for the rest of your life.
Internal Health
Traditional Martial Arts have proven through time to be one of the best methods for internal development. Through Body Mind Systems® training, a student will experience increased energy, reduced stress and a more efficient immune, respiratory, circulatory, and nervous system. People can look strong physically on the outside, but if they are weak internally, then their bodies are more susceptible to illness, such as airborne viruses, age and stress related afflictions. Movements taught within Body Mind Systems® help to naturally strengthen the immune system thus helping the already incredible healing capabilities of the body. The internal body becomes more balanced, thereby promoting better health which is a key factor in longevity.
Improved Mental Capacity
Traditional Martial Arts training develops one’s mental capacity. Through the practice your mental awareness becomes sharper and more focused by concentrating on perfecting the physical movements that you are practicing. This enables you to quickly recognize improvements in your patience, awareness, energy, and most importantly, your memory. With age, and the lack of full use, the mind can become dormant. Martial arts stimulates the mind and body so one can have a longer, healthier and happier life, regardless of current age, background or ability.
Self-defense
Training in a Body Mind Systems® school enables students to practice self-defense techniques in a safe and controlled atmosphere while learning to defend themselves against strikes, grabs, holds, attacks with weapons, and multiple attackers. With self defense training, our students develop the discipline and self-confidence that enables them to ignore threats of aggression which could, and often lead to, physical confrontations. Self defense training will empower and prepare students for one of life's true uncertainties. Through self-defense training, students develop the peace of mind to defend themselves or loved ones in almost any situation.
